The difference between this and a personalised book
Personalised children's books have been around for years and they are lovely objects. But they arrive in a fortnight, they cost more than most families spend on a book, they say the same words every time — and somebody still has to read them at the end of a long day.
A Fablebee story is ready in a few minutes, is different every time, and reads itself. You can lie down next to your child and listen to it with them, which is a different evening entirely from performing it.
What "personalised" actually means here
Your child is the main character, by the name you call them — a nickname is fine, and usually better. Their dog is in it. Their sister is in it. The thing that is actually happening this week is what the story is about, whether that is a first sleepover or a wobbly tooth or a new baby arriving in March.
We ask for very little to do it: a first name and an age band. Never a date of birth, never a photograph, never a school. Why we ask for so little explains the thinking.
Long enough for the evening you have got
Three minutes on a night when everybody is exhausted. Twenty-five when the story is the evening. Five, ten and fifteen in between. Every length costs exactly the same — one story is one story, on every plan and every pack.
Six narrators read them — Arthur, Ted, Nora, Ronan, Wilf and Elsie — five British and one Irish. You can hear all six before you sign up for anything, and choose a different one for every story.
Being straight with you
These are AI-generated audio stories. A language model writes them and a synthetic voice reads them. We put that on every page rather than in the small print, because you are choosing what your child listens to and you should know exactly what it is. How a story is made goes through every step, including what gets checked before it reaches you.
